Angers Autumn School Foraminifera and geochemistry

The Angers Autumn School (AAS), is the 1st international training course on recent foraminiferas combined with sediment geochemistry in coastal environments. The second edition of the AAS will occur from September 30th to October 4th, 2024 at the University of Angers (France).

This educational week is organized by the students of the master MAD “Mer, Anthropisation, Diagnostic” (Sea, Anthropization, and Diagnosis) in collaboration with the LPG laboratory (UMR CNRS 6112).

This workshop week will be composed of many lectures by various scientists from France and abroad. We believe that the position of the LPG laboratory, as the world leader on research using living foraminifera to understand benthic geochemistry, provides an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills on these topics. The workshop is aimed at international researchers, Ph.D., or interested master’s students.

This year's workshop will cover a wide range of innovative interdisciplinary research tools used to study coastal foraminifera and sedimentary geochemistry. The formation  alternates between theoretical and practical work and includes a field trip to the Bay of Bourgneuf-en-Retz on the Atlantic coast. These 5 days will be led by a dozen of the world's leading specialists in foraminifera and sediment geochemistry. Subjects covered include biology and ecology of foraminifera and the biogeochemical functioning of coastal environments, based on multidisciplinary experimental and field tools.
