A Doctor Honoris Causa is an honorary doctorate, a distinction conferred by the university upon an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in their field of expertise. It is awarded as an honor, recognizing professional, academic, or societal achievements.
At the University of Angers, honorands may be nominated every second year by members of the university community. The Honorary Degrees Committee then meets to review nominations for the award of the Doctor Honoris Causa title. After careful examination by the committee, candidates may be recommended for the honorary title. The Doctor Honoris Causa title is bestowed by the President of the University after approval by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The honorary degrees are given at an honorary degree ceremony held at the University.
