Doctor Honoris Causa title awarded to two outstanding professors
UA has awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa to two professors. The seventh ceremony took place on Tuesday 5 December 2023 and was preceded by a round-table discussion on Women and Science.
The recipients:
Federica Migliardo
Federica Migliardo, 48, is a professor at the University of Messina, Italy. Over the years, she has developed a high level of internationally recognised scientific expertise (with 186 publications) in the areas of biophysics, biology and medicine, particularly in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
In addition to this prestigious scientific career, Federica Migliardo has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to promoting open, transdisciplinary science to address the major current and future social issues (social and gender inequalities, ecological transitions, science, ethics).
Her academic commitments, particularly in the area of representation and the place of women in research, are remarkable and have received international recognition:
She was awarded the UNESCO-L'Oréal prize twice, in 2005 and 2008, and received the Sapio Prize for Internationally Renowned Women in 2016.
She is currently committed to the fight against gender discrimination through her work with the UNESCO-L'Oréal International Programme for Women in Science.
Her contribution to the feminisation of the research profession and her dedication to the fight against sexism and sexual violence in research make her a valued partner of the University of Angers, and more specifically of the psychology research laboratory.
Véronique Préat
As a professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, Véronique Préat, 65, is one of the most brilliant researchers of her generation. Early in her career, she founded a pharmaceutical research group at the University of Louvain. The "Advanced Drug Delivery and Biomaterials (ADDB)" team now includes 4 women senior researchers and around thirty researchers from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. She has supervised about sixty PhD and post-doctoral students who have gone on to become academics or are working in the biopharmaceutical industry. She has coordinated and collaborated on international multidisciplinary projects and developed a solid international network of collaborators, including the University of Angers.
Véronique Préat is one of the world's most highly cited researchers in pharmacology and toxicology (with over 350 international publications). As a specialist in the development of next-generation drugs, her approach is highly multidisciplinary and translational in the field of nanomedicine, with a focus on improving treatments for serious diseases: oral delivery of nanoparticles, applications in cancer research, particularly in the brain, pioneering transdermal gene delivery and DNA vaccines.
She is associate editor of the International Journal of Pharmaceutics. She has served as vice president of international affairs, president of the doctoral school and vice president of the Institut de Recherche en Médicament de Louvain.
Véronique Préat is deeply committed to the wealth and values of academic research. She is a full member of the Académie Royale de Médecine de Belgique.
